The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) is considering lobbying for the introduction of 'a scores on doors' policy to drive up food hygiene standards in restaurants.

Get ready..... HACCP is changing in 2006
A summary of an eighteen month government-funded project in North West England conducted by Eunice Taylor and Kevin Kane (Salford University). The project consisted of an in-depth investigation into methods of reducing the obstacles to the introduction of HACCP into small and medium-sized food businesses.

Can you determine the safety of cooked burgers using colour?
Many food handlers believe that visible signs, like changes in colour in food, are indicators that the food is safely cooked. Recent research questions this assumption.

Asbestos management in premises

The full requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2002 came into force in May 2004 with the new duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises. The duty requires anyone responsible for the maintenance of commercial, industrial or public properties to check for asbestos and then to properly manage the risk.

Workplace transport safety review
Workplace transport is one of the main causes of fatalities in UK workplaces, with around 70 people being killed each year in accidents involving vehicles. Another 2500 people a year suffer major injuries. Injuries and fatalities may be caused through people and loads falling from vehicles, or through the overturning of vehicles. However, 70% of such accidents are the result of pedestrians being struck by moving vehicles.
