'...To

Legislation in the UK and other countries requires
that all Food Handlers receive training in the areas
which surround their work activities. The training
areas I cover in my current role are inclusive of
some catering outlets and also convenience food stores.
Legislation requires that many of our personnel are
away from the unit for courses covering 'Food Hygiene'
and given the nature of the catering industry this
can often effect already over-burdened operational
activities. Staff turnover in the industry in relation
to cost is also a consideration when funding 'Food
Hygiene' training.
To say that I am impressed with this multimedia CD
ROM package is in reality an understatement. From
initially receiving the package the very nature of
the packaging invited me to take a closer look. On
beginning my review I decided that I would play the
part of the 'untrained food handler' (I actually already
hold a Food handling certificate) and work through
the modules. The graphics were big, bright and inviting
and navigation through the various modules was easy
and progress, I am certain, could easily be made even
by individuals with limited PC skills, at a rate that
suited both their personal and the organisations needs.
'...this
is the answer to my prayers...'
Objectives were clear and were met via a series of
module related exercises. From a monitoring point
of view progress could be checked on the specific
individual and the training could be 'put down' and
restarted at a later time if this was required. A
glossary of terms and also further more specific information
on areas included were available behind the initial
package and these along with the objectives could
be printed. When focusing on the area that is closest to any
Training Managers heart, 'COST', the average price
in local colleges for a 'Basic Food Hygiene course'
is around £40 per person. In comparison to under
£5 per person if taken on a 3 year licence (inclusive
of certificate) .
