Highfield’s exciting association with the BRC

BRC Partnership

Highfield is delighted to be working with the British Retail Consortium. Over the next 12 months, the BRC will be launching a number of training courses. The technical content will be provided by the BRC and Highfield will work with their team to ensure the training materials are fully interactive, visually impactive and reach the highest international standards.

BRC Training is a leading training provider for the food and non-food sectors, offering a wide selection of interactive courses. Courses have been designed to facilitate understanding of the BRC Global Standards and the certification process. The BRC has developed an excellent track record and built an enviable reputation for the development and delivery of training courses to a broad audience from both the private and public sectors, spanning the food, packaging, consumer products and storage and distribution sectors.

To support the Global Standards, the BRC offers high quality training courses to:

  • ensure that suppliers are well informed about how to implement the Standards
  • help suppliers to achieve and maintain certification
  • increase knowledge levels of the Standards and their requirements
  • help suppliers to understand how certificated audits operate and what is involved in an audit
  • understand how using the Standards can improve market potential

All the BRC courses can be delivered on an in-house basis, which is not only cost effective but also ensures that the course content and format can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual.

Courses include:

  • Third party auditor training (4 day course)
  • How to interpret the Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 5 (2 day course)
  • Internal Auditor (2 day course)
  • Handling Allergen Containing Materials (1 day course)
  • Introduction to the Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 5 (1 day course)

New faces at Highfield

Highfield are pleased to announce the following recent additions to its staff.

John Morley – Operations Director

John MorleyJohn has been involved with the planning, design and delivery of training for 18 years, predominantly for the Military and private training providers. During his 22 years’ service in the Army he became the Senior Staff Instructor (SSI), responsible for designing and delivering Command, Leadership and Management qualifications to Military middle management.

Since leaving the Military, John has worked for colleges, universities and private training providers designing, delivering, managing and implementing a vast array of courses and qualifications. His subject specialisms are Teacher Training qualifications, NVQ's and Assessor awards.

“I’m delighted to join Highfield,” says John, “and I’m looking forward to a challenging but rewarding job, meeting new challenges on a daily basis.”

Martin Wordsworth – Highfield Health & Safety Manager

Martin WordsworthOriginally from Mexborough, South Yorkshire, Martin was in the Royal Navy for six years before joining the Fire Service, where he spent 22 eventful years dealing with bombs, floods, fires and vehicle accidents. In 2004, having reached the position of Brigade Training Centre Manager, he decided to go into work for himself. By this point, Martin had achieved a degree in management, a certificate in education, and had a wealth of health and safety knowledge (in his words) ‘coming out of his ears’.

“The opportunity to join Highfield full time after being self-employed as a consultant/trainer did give me a few sleepless nights,” says Martin, “but in all honesty, I can't think of another company that could have tempted me.”

Martin is enjoying his new role as Health and Safety Manager, where is responsible not only for the company’s internal Health and Safety but also the development of Highfield’s Health and Safety training materials. Martin also maintains his trainer role on Health and Safety programmes up to Level 4, as well as delivering the Professional Trainer Certificate. When required, he acts as a consultant to HABC on Health and Safety qualification matters and represents HABC on Health and Safety boards and committees.

Martin also writes our regular Health & Safety News section.

Vicky Entwistle – Highfield Marketing Manager

vicky EntwistleBorn and raised in Altrincham, Vicky relocated to sunny South Yorkshire in 2001. Prior to joining Highfield, Vicky worked in marketing and communications roles for a number of organisations. These included an advertising and PR agency where she supported the Account Directors, a large sales training company where she
co-ordinated sales conferences for over 500 delegates, and a well-known hotel chain where she was a key member of the conference and events team.

“I will be working closely with the Highfield Directors to develop successful marketing strategies and
outstanding events for its customers”, says Vicky.

So please join us in welcoming John, Martin and Vicky to the team! For more about the Highfield Team, please see the "Meet The Team" section.
