This qualification has been developed due an increased interest in the subject. The aim is to provide candidates with a Level 4 knowledge and understanding of the practical application of nutrition and healthy eating. The principles learnt on the course can be applied to both the work and home lives of the individuals.
Who should attend?
The course will be of particular interest to those working in the following areas:
- Healthcare professionals including nurses, care home workers & community workers.
- Hospitality, sport, leisure and health & beauty industries
- Food industry – production, distribution and catering
- Those individuals who have a genuine interest in the subject and would like to develop their knowledge
On completion of this course, delegates will have the appropriate technical knowledge to train candidates for the Level 2/Foundation nutrition courses.
It is recommended that candidates hold an intermediate/Level 3 Nutrition & Health qualification or have relevant experience prior to registering on this course.
Course objectives
This intensive course will be presented in a varied and interesting way using the Highfield training pack, and covers the following subjects:
- Components of a Balanced Diet
- Energy and Metabolism
- Digestion and Assimilation
- Weight Control and Exercise
- Diet and Disease
- Dietary Reference Values
- Cultural and Special Diets
- Menu Planning
- Trends in Healthy Eating
- Advertising and Food Labelling
- Understanding of nutrition in infants, children, adolescents, during pregnancy and for older people
Pre-course work, a course book and a comprehensive delegate pack will be provided.
Duration
This intensive course is held over six days: five days' training with an additional day for the exam. Delegates are required to pass two written exams and two assignments.
The written exams consist of:
- Paper 1 - General written examination paper (3 hours) 100 marks
- Paper 2 - Specialist paper (2 hours) 50 marks
Candidates may choose either of the following specialist papers:
- Nutrition & Health in the Community
- Nutrition & Health for Sports and Leisure
The two assignments are to be completed during the week of the course - one based on Exam Paper 1 (General Principles) and the other based on your choice of specialist paper (Exam Paper 2) and will be approximatly 2000 words each.
Qualification
All successful candidates will receive the RSPH Diploma in Nutrition & Health Level 4.
Please note pre-course work will be sent to you for this course along with your joining instructions. It is necessary for you to complete this work and bring it with you to the course.
